Dear Parents,

We hope this email finds you and your family well and in good health!

Due to the early school closure, we were not able to hold our annual year end Parent Association meeting, so we’d like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a wonderful summer and also, provide you with a brief recap of the 2019-2020 school year.

During this school year, the Parent Association is proud to have sponsored several events and programs as well as made various investments for the benefit of the school community. The following are some highlights:

  • Jog-A-Thon fundraising event
  • Pacific Science Center Experience (in school)
  • Family Fun Night @ Elevated Sportz (elementary)
  • ClownBuggie Carnival Event (pre-primary)
  • Scholastic Book Fair and library book wrapping party
  • Staff Appreciation Week (Remodel of staff lounge currently in progress.)
  • 2019-2020 yearbook (in progress)
  • Approved various grants (e.g. update books and games for the common area, supplies for enrichment projects, flexible seating for students).1
  • Tree planting in Wilburton Park in Bellevue
  • The Sophia Way (guest speaker presentation for first-fifth grade and donation drive)2
  • Holiday Giving Tree (in support of Bellevue LifeSprings’s Adopt-a-Family Program)

While we weren’t able to do everything that we had planned for this school year, as you can see, we still managed to do many wonderful things for our school community and the local community. Many of these events were captured in pictures and videos and can be viewed in SmugMug3

For events and programs that were cancelled due to the school closure, we hope to reschedule in the 2020-2021 school year. For all grants that were approved but not disbursed or did not expire this school year, the Parent Association will ensure that all open grants are completed and funded. To view a list of the approved grants as well as the Parent Association’s financial reports, please refer to our website.1

At this time, we‘d also like to take this opportunity to thank the following retiring board members for their time in service:

Nermeen Hamza - Nermeen served as the director of communications this year. She has also served as room parent for her son’s classes in prior years. We appreciate all the hard work that she's done in and outside of the classroom.

Elena Dournova - Elena served as the director of grants and programs this year. In prior years, she has served as room parent for her daughters’ classes. We’re thankful for everything that she’s done to help enrich the school experience for our students.

Jessie Zhou - Jessie served as the director of fundraising this year. She did an amazing job organizing the Jogathon for pre-primary and elementary as well as the celebration event. Without her, we would not have been able to raise additional funds to support our school community.

Sriya Blanco - This school year Sriya served as the director of yearbook. Previously, she has served as director of grants/programs and yearbook co-chair. During her time on the board, Sriya has spent countless hours working on helping get grants approved, taking pictures around the school, and working on the design and layout of the yearbook. On top of all this, she also volunteered in all three of her children’s classrooms! Thank you to Sriya for her three years of service and for always having the school community’s best interest in mind.

Susanne Guthrie -  For this school year, Susanne served as the VP/director of philanthropy. In prior years, she served as director of library and director of fundraising. Susanne has taken every role to a new level by setting high expectations, and in doing so, she has helped the Parent Association mature to a new level every year. Having served five years, she has earned the title of longest serving board member! Her dedication to the school community is greatly admired and appreciated.

Finally, a big THANK YOU to all the parent volunteers, room parents, and anyone else we may have missed that helped make this school year a success for the students and school staff despite all the challenges. We appreciate your support!

Have a nice, safe, and healthy summer!

Sincerely,

Cedar Crest Academy Bellewood Parent Association
